CREDITS

Social Justice and Development Internship Program

Recommended credit is 15 hours semester credit hours, assigned as follows: Spanish Grammar and Conversation (3 credits), Latin American Perspectives on Justice and Sustainable Development (3 credits), and Independent Internship (9 credits). Credit distribution is based on credit hours at the majority of ICADS partner universities. However, there are enough contact hours to consider ICADS courses as 4 credits, rather than 3. Please consult your off-campus study office for your university's specific credit and grading policy for this program and communicate with your registrar and with ICADS staff about your credit transfer needs. Both the number and distribution of credits should be determined in advance. ICADS is affiliated with Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts. Credit transfers may be arranged with Hampshire College, but must be done by ICADS before the semester begins. Hampshire charges a credit transfer fee of $300. Usually this credit transfer is not necessary as ICADS credits are widely accepted by many of the best colleges and universities in the U.S.A.

Summer Internship and Cultural Training Program

As a non-academic program, academic credits are typically not granted. Students interested in receiving credit for the ICADS Summer Internship should consult the appropriate administrative office at his/her university.

Spanish Language Intensive Course

Students interested in receiving credit for Spanish classes taken at ICADS should consult the appropriate administrative office at his/her university. Academic credit is not granted by ICADS but rather by the participant's home school. Upon request, students will receive an ICADS transcript indicating the number of class hours completed and an overall grade for performance. One semester unit of credit is granted for each 15-20 hours of class time. Thus, a four-week program of 4 hours of class daily would typically generate 3-5 semester credits.
